Hi, and happy Friday.
Quick note on why this one's longer than usual: a batch of you didn't receive the last few weeks' opportunities (a delivery gremlin on my end — sorry!). So I've bundled those back in alongside this week's fresh finds, which makes for a properly loaded issue. Lots here, so I've kept each one short and sorted everything by deadline. Skim, grab what fits, and go.
Let's get into it.
Grants, competitions & open calls
Der Greif — "Myth, Folk & Superstition" Deadline: Oct 14
A beautifully-themed open call on modern folklore, superstition and myth-making. Pay-what-you-can (suggested €10, waivers available); selected work gets an online exhibition in Der Greif's Pulse section plus a peer critique roundtable. Apply
HIPA — "Water: Our Shared Story" Deadline: Oct 15
Free, worldwide, and right in the climate-and-culture lane: a story of 5–10 images on water and the people, communities and planet around it, run with the UN Water Conference. $10,000 / $8,000 / $5,000, and phone and drone shots are welcome. Apply
Raccont'Arti — Contemporary Photography Award 2026 Deadline: Oct 15
Free and international, documentary and artistic approaches both welcome. €3,000 for the Open winner (plus a separate €500 Student category), with a group show in Italy. Apply
Peak Mag — Volume 7 Deadline: Oct 16
A lovely low-stakes one for the mountain lovers: send your favourite mountain moments to be considered for print in Peak's (@peak_mag) next volume. Free, just email your images to info.peak.mag@gmail.com.
Wellcome Photography Prize 2027 Deadline: Oct 21
Free, worldwide, open to any level. £10,000 per category plus 22 runner-up prizes of £1,000, with themes spanning climate and health, mental health and infectious disease, made for work at the intersection of science and story. Apply
Numéro+ — "Flux et Forma" Deadline: Oct 25
Worldwide, €12 to enter. The grand prize is a Nanlite lighting package plus a 10-page printed magazine feature with the cover. A nice one if you want tear sheets and gear! Apply
Pride Photo — Open Call Deadline: Oct 31
Free and international, for documentary stories on LGBTQIA+ lives and identities. A strong fit if your work sits with community and belonging. Apply

Getxophoto 2027 — "Tide" Deadline: Nov 3
A worldwide open call for the Basque festival (May–June 2027). Selected artists get an exhibition with production covered, a €500 artist fee, two nights' accommodation and up to €150 towards travel. Apply

Rotterdam Photo 2027 — “Vibrance: The Pulse of a Living World”
Deadline: Nov 4
A worldwide open call (16+) for the Rotterdam Photo festival — selected projects get their own exhibition space in the festival’s shipping-container village, a professional review, and promotion through partners like LensCulture. €29–€35 to enter; no cash prize, but real wall space and strong exposure. Apply
Save Our Seas — Ocean Storytelling Photography Grant Deadline: Nov 15
Free, and a genuinely special prize: two winners each get $2,000 plus a paid three-week assignment documenting a marine conservation project (day rate and travel covered) and a published photo essay. One catch, it's for emerging storytellers (five years' experience max), and especially encourages Global South and gender-diverse applicants. Apply
Monochrome Awards Deadline: Nov 15
Free, worldwide, black-and-white only. $3,000 and international exposure. An easy one to just enter. Apply
The Hopper Prize Deadline: Nov 17
$40 to enter, open internationally to any medium including photography. Two unrestricted $3,500 grants plus honourable mentions, no theme, no strings. Apply
Griffin Museum — John Chervinsky Emerging Photographer Scholarship Deadline: Nov 22
Free, no age or residency requirement. $3,000, a solo exhibition at the Griffin, and a book from Chervinsky's own library. For emerging photographers, it excludes anyone with a traditionally-published book or major prior solo shows (self-published is fine). Apply
Vital Impacts — Environmental Photography Grant Deadline: Nov 30
A $20,000 fellowship, six $5,000 fellowships, and ten mentorships, for environmental storytelling. $25 to enter (waived for developing countries and hardship). Important detail: it's for photographers documenting their own community or country, so for most of us that means a project close to home. Apply
Wildlife Photographer of the Year Deadline: Dec 3
The Natural History Museum's iconic prize — £35 to enter (free for under-18s), open to everyone worldwide. Prestige and reach like few others. Apply
Paid roles & residencies
The Arctic Hideaway — Funded Residency (Fleinvær, Northern Norway) Deadline: Oct 11 — closes this weekend!
Funded residencies in 2027/2028 at the Arctic Hideaway on Fleinvær, off the coast of Northern Norway. Details on funding and eligibility are on the full call, but if a quiet stretch of Arctic island to make work sounds like you, don't sit on this one. Apply
Natural Selection Tour — "Road Warriors / Always Rolling" Deadline: Oct 18
A season-long, social-first series: one two-person creator team on the road for six months (Dec–May), paid $80,000–$120,000 per team plus travel and lodging. The catch: both members must be legally authorised to work in the US, so this one's mainly for US-based readers. Apply
Afar — Creator Collective Deadline: Oct 31
A paid network of up to 15 travel creators making video for Afar's Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, with paid editorial work, select press trips, optional brand partnerships and a listing on Afar's site. Selection weighs your niche, storytelling and travel credentials. Apply
That's your (big) lot for this week. Thanks for your patience if you were one of the ones who missed the last few. You're all caught up now. Pick one, and actually go for it.
See you next Friday.
