The Open Call - Photography Opportunities

[ the open call ]

Friday, September 4th

Hi, and happy Friday.

Big stack this week! Seven open calls, plus two paid content-creator gigs at the end as a little bonus. I've sorted everything by deadline, soonest first, so you know what to jump on.

[1] Martin Parr Foundation Awards 2026

Deadline: September 13th

This year's theme is "Street Fashion," judged by Niall McDiarmid, open worldwide for just Β£10 (up to 3 images; free if you're an MPF member). Worth knowing the prize is prestige rather than cash β€” an estate-stamped Martin Parr print, a place in the Foundation archive, and a window exhibition β€” but that's a lovely line on any CV.

[2] DEAR DAVE, 2026 Fellowship

Deadline: September 16th

Submit a body of 10–20 images in any genre and get it in front of a seriously stacked jury β€” PhotoVogue's Alessia Glaviano, ICP's David Campany, LACMA's Rebecca Morse, RaMell Ross and more. Three recipients get a portfolio in the magazine and the top 40 land in the online archive. There's an entry fee, and it's open worldwide.

[3] PhMuseum 2026 Women Photographers Grant

Early-bird deadline: September 24th (opens the 8th)

For female and non-binary photographers anywhere in the world: $11,000 in cash across three prizes, plus €5,000 in gear vouchers, a solo show at PhMuseum Lab, and a Vogue Italia interview. There's an entry fee, cheaper if you get in by the early-bird date. Submissions open September 8th.

[4] CitiesToBe Photo Award 26

Deadline: September 30th

Free, worldwide, and built around this year's theme of "third places" β€” the shared spaces beyond home and work. Submit a project of 10–20 images; the prize combines a cash acquisition with real visibility as part of Barcelona's 2026 World Capital of Architecture programme.

[5] Eidolon Grant 2026

Deadline: September 30th

€25,000 total, free, and open worldwide β€” with a specific focus: vernacular and everyday photography (archives, family albums, snapshots, image culture), including research and exhibitions. If you've got a project that lives in the everyday rather than out in the field, this is a rare and generous one. (Heads up: photobooks aren't eligible.)

[6] Earth Partner Prize 2026

Deadline: October 7th

A free, worldwide open call for climate-focused work in any medium, with eight finalists winning $10,000, $5,000 or $2,000 and exhibitions everywhere from Photo London to the UN. One catch: it's for creatives aged 14–30, so it's one for the younger among you.

[7] World Sports Photography Awards 2027

Opens September 9th β€” closes November 23rd

Something a little different to round things off: free, worldwide, all levels, across 24 sports categories (up to 10 images). It opens next week and runs until late November, so there's no rush β€” a good one for anyone shooting action, adventure, or the mountains this autumn.

A little extra: two paid gigs

If you'd rather get paid to make the work than apply for a prize, two content-creator roles caught my eye this week:

Outside Life β€” Content Creator (remote) A remote contractor role for photographers, videographers and storytellers to capture the mountain lifestyle this winter β€” videos, photos and social content for Instagram, TikTok and beyond. If your work lives in the snow and the outdoors, this one's calling. Apply here.

Flashback β€” Content Creator (Hong Kong) Flashback is hiring one content creator from anywhere in the world to come live and work with their team in Hong Kong β€” paid to create content, travel with them, and work on shoots and campaigns. A proper adventure if you're up for the move. Apply here.
